DESIGN CONCEPT & MATERIAL BREAKDOWN

In designing this volume, my intention was to create a profound sense of grounded enclosure without relying on traditional vertical walls. I carved the seating directly into the subterranean architecture, coating the continuous bench ledges in a delicate, hand-troweled limewash plaster that softly diffuses incoming light. By fitting the deep cushions with tactile, unbleached raw linen, the lounge becomes an invitation to pause and reconnect, turning conversation into an organic element of the space itself.

Designing this lounge reminded me that architecture feels most poignant when it holds us gently within its forms. Sitting in the quiet softness of the raw linen and limewash, I felt an immediate sense of shelter—a calm retreat submerged beneath the movement of daily life.
